Online Lecture of Interest: Unsung Pioneers of the 19th Amendment

Historian Judith Dann looks at two little-known pioneers of the suffrage movement born in Licking County, Ohio.

Victoria Woodhull and Tennie C. Clafin

Victoria Woodhull and Tennie C. Clafin

Most Americans have never heard of Victoria Woodhull, let alone her sister Tennessee (also known as Tennie C). Along with other suffragists of their era, Victoria and Tennie flouted the law by attempting to vote and run for office. Born in Homer, Ohio they rose to fame and fortune on the national political stage and entered professions (stock broker, newspaper publisher) still largely out of reach to women.

In this year of commemorating the Centennial of the 19th Amendment, historian Judith Dann looks back at these remarkable women. Hosted by the League of Women Voters of Licking County and the Granville Historical Society.

This is an online event: September 24th at 7:00, on Zoom.
