History as Background: Turkey and Islam

  • Granville Historical Society 115 East Broadway Granville, OH 43023 (map)

The Granville Historical Society is committed to the principle that a solid understanding of history can illuminate the present and offer different ways of thinking about the future. For that reason, we host a series of discussions called History as Background, in which we turn to history to help us understand current events.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the next lecture in the History as Background programs will focus on Turkey & Islam. Catalina Hunt of the Denison University history department will be the leader of this discussion with current event connections.

Turkey has long been at the intersection of multiple cultural and geopolitical fault lines: East and West, Christianity and Islam, democracy and theocracy, and many more. Especially in light of recent instability within Turkey as well as within the European Union, this timely lecture and discussion will help you better understand Turkey's present status and future possibilities.

The talk will be held in the Robinson Research Center at the Granville Historical Society and is free and open to the public.
